Remembering the Dead

My brother, My mate
by Andre Strooband, Queensland
Newsagent, Aged 55

My brother GEORGE, married with five children aged under 12 was murdered by a (family)friend on 18th December,1993.

He cared deeply for all his friends, workmates at McCafferty's, family and most of all his beloved children of whom he shared their events, happenings, trials and tribulations.

A few months before his untimely death, he had the opportunity to visit family in Holland who had never migrated here and it had the profound effect on him to the extent that he realised that Australia is indeed a lucky country.

He was a clown and joker who enjoyed the company of many friends where he used his antics to produce a great deal of enjoyment and laughter.

My most enduring memory of him prior to his death, is to see him come into the newsagency and peruse some magazines for a half hour or so and then come to see me and have a chat for some time before he went home.

It is a source of great comfort to all of us including our Mother that we donated four organs for transplant. Of those organs donated, the recipients after nearly ten years are according to reports leading constructive lives. It is in this way knowing that he gave life to others with his death that we honour him and also our memories of him throughout his life.

With Love
Andre'

May i also give the gift of life when my time comes.
