Bells

I remember reading about the origin of old sayings, there was one that spoke of bells in a churchyard. It was based on accounts in the middle ages of coffins being exhumed which had evidence of scratching on the inside lids and apparent damage to the hands and fingers of the corpse. They began to incorporate a bell mounted thru the lid which a person "waking up" inside could ring to alert people of the mistake. Unfortunately I cant at this time remember the saying. It is still used today, obviously not in the same way.
Anyone know the saying???
