What is Death?

Euthanasia
by Robin, W.A.
Retired Public Servant/Carer, Aged 56

After watching a number of relatives (including both parents) die of cancer - and suffering cancer myself, I have thought long and hard about death - mainly the approach to it. I feel that each person should have access to accurate euthanasia information (or even legally sanctioned medical assistance)- if this is what they wish - and if they are proved to be mentally competent and not under duress. I do not believe anyone has the right to impose their beliefs or fears on anyone else. Doctors should be able to follow the instructions contained in a document which sets out the patient's wishes if certain situations occur. I do believe in a hereafter (based on some very subjective experiences) - but I do not believe in hellfire, purgatory etc. Once dead, the body should be treated with respect - but I believe it is basically a discarded shell. If a person lived their life with good motives - and hurt nothing deliberatly - their memory and passing should be celebrated.
