The Final Enemy
by Father Dave Smith, Sydney, Australia
Anglican Priest, Boxer, Aged 40
I see death as 'the final enemy'. Life is a war and we are always on active duty. It's a battle between good and evil, or God and the Devil. I'd like to see my death as a rest after completing my part in the battle. There's too much starvation, poverty and child abuse in this world to feel at peace. Death is not something to be feared. I think I can safely say that I have no fear of death. Perhaps that's because I'm very fulfilled in this life - maybe I'd be more afraid if I felt there were things left undone. But I don't think life ends with death. My understanding is that after death, everything comes together and we'll be completely at peace in the Kingdom of God, which is a world full of love.
