Remembering the Dead

Where Is The Justice?
by Polly, Qld
Retired, Aged 67

I had the nearest thing to the perfect mother, she was loving, wise, fun, and interested in everything. Above all for over 40 years she was supported by a deep Christian faith. It was therefore very distressing that in the last couple of years of her life, her faith inexplicably abandoned her and as she became blind and frail she found no solace in it as she had in past difficult times.

I am haunted by the last few months we had with her. Uncharacteristically my mother lost all zest for life, her blindness was pathetic and a heartbreaking stroke made it impossible to communicate with her, during which time she seemed to be in great distress and unaware of the presence of my sister or myself. Worst of all, being so old (97) the hospital seemed to spare little time for her comfort.

Now the saddest thing is that I find it hard to remember what she looked like when she was younger and happier and I ask myself where is the justice? Such a good person did not deserve to suffer such an unhappy ending! Could she not have been allowed to slip quickly and peacefully away? How can we believe in a LOVING God??
