Suddenly, I KNEW . . .
by Michael Sichel, NSW

Three weeks before I represented Australia at the Rome Olympics (1960)I was invited to a study on the New Testament. I was at that time assistant editor of a newspaper.
Training very hard, including running ten miles nightly after work, I had found myself losing my temper very easily (which one does when finely tuned). For sometime I glorified in this "macho" reaction. But slowly it entered my consciousness, I was hurting people. At the same time I felt a need in my inner being, a deep need for something - I did not quite know what. I began to visit one or two different churches, but was not satisfied.
At that time I met a fine and humble couple with deep faith; he had been a champion athlete himself. She sang these beautiful hymns, while doing housework, washing dishes etc.
They invited me to the study I mentioned.
A farmer took the study by reading in the book of Romans (ch.5 & 6). Here it succinctly describes how death came into our world, and how victory over death came through One Man - Jesus Christ.
I will never forget that evening.
Suddenly, as he read, I KNEW - beyond doubt, that this was true and that because He died and rose again - I too will rise with Him one day. I was so grateful and my heart was deeply touched by God. I cried in joy & relief.
I am just an ordinary person, full of mistakes, as well as good things -- but I know that death is conquered. My imperfect life is hidden in His perfect life. I need no other argument.
I share with you my story, common among those who have been led to believe.
There are many mysteries in this world, science is daily discovering more questions to be answered. It is a blind man who would say he "knows it all" -- I have since studied multiple religious theories -- but nothing satisfied my heart like the Gospel.
